John Cena was interviewed on WWE The Bump yesterday, where he gave many headlines, such as his relationship with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or his thoughts on the current state of WWE. The sixteen-time world champion also spoke about the future of the company and revealed that he is very proud of Cody Rhodes.
"I'm extremely proud of Cody, especially because he was bold enough to bet on himself. He knew it was going to be painful, he knew it was going to be a path of growth, and now he's back and performing at an even more elite level than before. He's building his own path, he's more authentic. The Cody Rhodes you see is him; he's the young man I saw speak when he inducted his father into the Hall of Fame," commented John Cena on WWE The Bump.
"On his journey, he's learned about business, he's learned about this business, he's learned to be more grateful, he's learned how events are put together, he's learned from the cameramen, audio people, catering. Not that he didn't before, but as that was a big part of his responsibility, he has a new perspective on everything that goes on here, and I'm very proud of him. I'm very grateful that he's come back to the place that belongs to him in WWE."
Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena?
The WRKD Wrestling Twitter account, which specializes in posting exclusive WWE information, stated a few weeks ago that the company is considering a match between John Cena and Cody Rhodes. "John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes has been discussed as a possibility during Cena's return," wrote the WRKD Wrestling account on Twitter.
It's worth noting that Cody Rhodes has mentioned John Cena as one of his dream opponents today. In March, he revealed a conversation he had with him many years ago. "It was something he told me in the car when I was driving him around in... 2008? 2009? What I told him on Raw was that if he ever comes back for another match, I'd like to face him," Rhodes said. "I think he sounded pretty good when he said, 'I can't promise that.'"
