"A new and significant alliance between companies has begun to take shape in the last few hours. Through their social media channels, New Japan Pro-Wrestling has confirmed the creation of the conglomerate United Japan Pro-Wrestling.
In what is the result of a historic union, nine companies have agreed to a partnership with the aim of 'promoting the presence of professional wrestling and its cultural merit in Japanese society at large.' NJPW, NOAH, STARDOM, AJPW, and TJPW are just a few of the companies on the list, with the possibility of more names being integrated in the future.
"The COVID pandemic made it clear that there was a lack of communication and a unified approach to event guidelines, and that there was no common contact point between the industry and national and municipal governments," states the press release, which also clarifies that United will serve as a bridge between puroresu companies and the Japanese government.
UJPW will share main offices with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Its founder is former wrestler and judoka Seiji Sakaguchi, while its leader will be Naoki Sugabayashi, president of NJPW. The press release was clear in pointing out that the companies will continue to operate independently, with the conglomerate serving as a 'link' between all of them.
To inaugurate this impactful alliance in professional wrestling, United Japan Pro-Wrestling will hold its first event on May 6, 2024, at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo. The press release ensures that this and other shows under the United brand will distribute their profits equally among its members.
